Data Privacy Day 2017
The National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) is sponsoring “Data Privacy Day,” which takes place annually on January 28th. According to StaySafeOnline.org, the NCSA’s website, Congress passed “a non-binding resolution” in 2014 designating the 28th of January as “National Data Privacy Day.” Why the 28th? This is to commemorate the signing of Convention 108, “the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection,” also per the NCSA.
The theme for 2017 is “Respecting Privacy, Safeguarding Data and Enabling Trust.” It’s all about raising awareness for the preservation of your personal information and, thus, your privacy. One of the NCSA’s primary focuses is internet security. It is important to ensure that you’re taking steps to keep data thieves at bay. One of the biggest online targets is social media. Land Shark has written on ways to protect yourself on the web before. Do your part this January 28th and consider updating your passwords, among other things.
Together, we can live freely and securely! Follow @DataPrivacyDay on Twitter for more info.
